Vocabulary

Most of Esperingle's vocabulary comes directly from modern English. Some word forms are based upon English pronunciation while others (mainly words of Latinate or Greek origins) are based upon their English spellings to improve recognizabilty for speakers of other languages that contain similar forms. There are cases where an Esperanto word has been retained to avoid homonyms, and also a few instances where "international" forms are used. Here is a partial list of the general guidelines used to form Esperingle words.

Silent Letters

Silent letters are eliminated in Esperingle, including the silent E found at the end of many English words. The final -e of the examples below is not part of the word root, but a noun marker which is pronounced.

nome = gnome
sike = psyche
naife = knife

C

"Soft" C becomes S in Esperingle, while "hard" C becomes K.

kate = cat
site = city

CH

English words with the digraph CH are now spelled with C in Esperingle.

canse = chance
curce = church
mace = match

Some words with irregular pronunciations are spelled accordingly.

Xikago = Chicago
kaxe = cache
kore = chorus

G

"Soft" G becomes J in Esperingle, while "hard" G remains G.

jene = gene

English words with the suffixes -sion, -tion become -xon in Esperingle.

raxone = ration
tradixone = tradition
naxone = nation

W

The semivowel W in English is now the vowel U, which diphthongizes with other vowels so the pronunciation remains unchanged. W is only used at the beginning of a word, or between vowels.

watre = water
euforie = euforia
sause = sauce

X

English words beginning with the X are changed to Z in Esperingle, but become KS in other positions.

zenone = xenon
eksakti = exact
ekstri = extra

Y

The semivowel Y in English is now the vowel I, which diphthongizes with other vowels so the pronunciation remains unchanged. Y is only used at the beginning of a word, or between vowels.

deye = day
furie = fury
yone = ion

Doubled letters

Doubled leters are not permitted in Esperingle. Where they occur as the result of compounding words, they are reduced to just a single letter.

tri+ipl+o triplo = trioble = triple
kuar+dek kuardek = kvardek

Patro Nia

Patro nia, kiu estas in la ĉielo,

sanktigata estu via nomo.

Venu via regno,

fariĝu via volo,

kiel in la ĉielo, tiel ankaŭ sur la tero.

Nian panon ĉiutagan donu tu ni holaaŭ.

Kaj pardonu tu ni niajn ŝuldojn,

kiel ankaŭ ni pardonas tu niaj ŝuldantoj.

Kaj ne konduku nin in tenton,

sed liberigu nin av la malbono.
